There's something very special about Italy that makes it impossible not to fall in love with the country.
Food: Is there another country in Europe that could hold your palate’s interest so easily? Italians are passionate about food. Cuisine is like a religion — and it’s the quality of the ingredients that’s most sacred. They tell me French cuisine is the art of making a fine sauce to cover the taste of mediocre ingredients. In Italy, they say, La miglior cucina comincia dal mercato - the best cuisine starts from the market.
Coffee: Making a cup of coffee is a work of art when you see our tutor, Laura, at work. With 3 espresso makers for different quantities, water is placed in the bottom of the coffeepot, ground coffee placed above it and the water boiled so steam passes through the grounds to generate an exquisite, deep, dark, rich blend. Milk is then boiled and whisked frothy to layer on top with a sprinkling of cocoa for a perfect cappuccino.
Art & Monuments: Greece may be teeming with monuments but Italy fights her corner. Rome, for example, is also home to monuments like la Fontana di Trevi, il Colosseo, La Basilica di San Pietro and il Panteon. All Italian cities have impressive chiese (churches) or cattedrali (cathedrals) as well as stunning ponti (bridges). And when the monuments are finished what about the art on offer, for example in La Galleria degli Uffizi in beautiful Firenze and I Musei Vaticani in the eternal city of Rome.
Countryside: Tuscany landscapes, rugged Dolomites, impressive Alps, golden beaches; should we go on?
Whatever you love about Italy, being able to talk to the locals in Italian will increase it a hundred fold.
